BEBGC Meeting Recap 12/15/16

Attendees

Chris Cregan, Michael Feinberg, Robert Gohl, Jim Halloran, Alex Jordan

Games Played

Robert, Jim and Alex started with two games of 7 Wonders. Alex edged out Robert 59 to 56 to win the first game, while Jim came back to win the second with 57 over Alex’s second place 53.

Chris, Michael, Robert, Jim, and Alex played Lords of Waterdeep with the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion. It had seemed like Michael was ahead most of the game, but Chris completed a quest that let him put three buildings into play, earning him steady income from them and at the end revealed the builder lord giving him 6 points for each building. That put Chris just over the top, beating Michael 127 to 125.

Chris and Michael played two games of Star Wars: Rebellion. In the first, Chris’s rebellion gambled on locating their base in Geonosis, immediately adjacent to Michael’s imperial forces in Rodia. The rebels started off with a surprise assault on Rodia, but were unsuccessful, and the feint to Naboo did not draw off the imperial forces who invaded Geonosis and with the help of some luck with dice, Michael won on turn 3.

For the  second game of Rebellion, Chris and Michael switched sides and played a longer game of cat and mouse, with the imperials steadily marching through the galaxy, but not finding the Rebel base and the Rebels winning small victories. On turn six however a powerful imperial force found the Rebels on Yavin. If they could have held out against the initial assault, plans were in place to evacuate to Endor and for a different force to assault Coruscant, quite possibly leading the Rebellion to victory, but it was not to be – the base fell and Chris’s imperials were victorious.

Club Business

Jim, Michael, and Chris were named to the nominating committee for 2017 officers. Elections will be held at the 1/21/17 meeting.

Michael was able to fight back and reclaim the lead, but Chris had the last action and managed to conquer one of Michael’s temples for a 3 point gain for him and a loss of 2 for Michael, giving Chris the win with 11 and Michael and Ben each with 9.

Matt B, Chris, Michael, Alex, and Ben played a second game of Firefly, this time using the ‘Rims the Thing’ setup and the ‘Any Port in a Storm’ mission. This was quite drawn out when all of a sudden just about everyone was close to completing the goal, but Chris was able to make it back to his haven first with the necessary 12,000 credits.

BEWC Meeting Recap 7/19/14

Attendees: Bruce Clark, Michael Feinberg, Jim Halloran, Victor Liu, Dave Olson, Jay Olson, Matt Walker

1) Bruce, Michael, Victor, and Jim started off with Lords of Waterdeep with the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion. After being behind for most of the beginning, Michael thought he had a chance to win after completing a 25 point quest and then following up with a 40 point quest soon after, but Jim used his plot quests to good effect to clear out all of the corruption he had accumulated and won with a commanding 156 points to Michael’s 130, with Bruce and Victor just behind at 119 and 116.

2,3) Michael, Jim, Victor, and Matt moved on to play two games of Dominion. The first game was the predefined ‘Biggest Money’ set from Prosperity. On the last turn, Michael had a little extra money and an extra buy, so bought an estate in addition to the colony, and that one extra point proved decisive in his 44 to 43 point win over Jim. The second game was with a random set of cards, but Michael was again victorious, this time with 59 points over Jim’s 41 point second place.

4) Michael, Jim, Jay, and Matt sat down to the First Contact mission of Battlestations with Dave serving as the referee. With the alien planet sending out a steady stream of missiles, the team decided the best plan was to run as far away as possible and send a science probe to investigate instead. Jim (the pilot) had to leave early, but not much piloting was needed to keep running away. Jay’s really lucky shooting kept the missiles from hitting the ship while Matt narrowed down the alien’s hidden message and the team was able to send back another probe with a message of peace and warp away before being destroyed by the missiles for an ‘overwhelming success’.
