BEWC Meeting Recap 1/18/14

Attendees: Michael Feinberg, Jim Halloran, Victor Liu,Ryan Frans, Alex Jordan, Chris Cregan, Maria and Matt Willey

1) Victor Michael and Jim started with a game of Haggis.  It was mearly played through in order to learn the game.

2) Flux came with Michael Victor, Ryan, Jim and Alex.  It was a slow game but eventually Michael had a good turn, able to play both keepers and plot card for a victory.

3) The first of two games of Firefly had Victor, Michael, Alex and Chris racing around the galaxy for money.  Victor spent the game ferrying passengers back and forth and neglected crime and crew a like and so ended up easily getting to the required cash value before anyone else ending with 12,400.  Michael had the fewest active missions and a large stack of cash reserves to end with 410 after subtracting his missions value.  Both Chris and Alex finished well into the red due to some high value, uncompleted missions.

4) Ryan and Jim had the longest and closest game of Twilight Struggle in club history.  Ryan managed to triumph with just a few points after the final turn though it required snatching enough points away from Jim in the last hand.

5) It was only fitting that the next game, Guillotine, was the shortest in club history.  With both the first and second days line ups getting cut short after only a couple executions each, Michael was just edged out by Ryan in the final day.  Ryan won with 12, Michael 10, Jim and Chris had 6 and Alex had 5.

6)Planet Steam was one of the two last games played.  Chris and Ryan had played before, with Chris edging out Ryan 464 to 433.  Matt ended with 254 and Maria 207.  (Scores were calculated with all lowest common value ignored)

7) At the other table Michael Alex and Jim played their last game of Firefly.  The mission this time was Harkons folly with Alex managing to finish first.

Club Business: The club voted in alignment with nominating committee from the meeting before.  The new President is Jim Halloran, the new Vice President is Michael Feinberg, the new Treasurer is Dave Olsen and the new/old secretary is Chris Cregan.

BEWC Meeting Recap 9/7/13

1) Two games of Resistance were played while people waited for the full group to show.  The Resistance won the first game with Karen, Alex, Dan, Mike F against Jim and Dave.  The 2nd game had Dave swapped teams with Karen, but in the end the spys still lost.

2) Next up was a game to decide who would be King of Tokyo.  Karen and Alex died not being able to withstand from repeated attacks by Dave and Michael in Tokyo.  Dave died shortly after followed by both Michaels.  Ultimately, Brandon won.

3) Jim and Dan played a side game of Twilight Struggle.  Dan as Russia got off to a slow lead but Jim as the Americans managed to pull ahead as the years progressed.

4) Chris, Michael F, Dave and Alex played a game of Love Letter while things were being set up for Battlestar.  Alex ended up being the most successful letter deliverer person.

5) Having recently acquired the Daybreak expansion to Battlestar Galactica, this game was eager joined.  Unfortunately, the game turned out to be a little dull, with an easy human win.  It was Alex and Tyler’s first game of any Battlestar variant, and both spent the majority of the game stuck.  Alex was the mutineer and spent his entire game playing mutiny cards, though managed to successfully avoid getting sent to the brig because of it.  Tyler wasn’t so lucky, and spent the entire game there as Tom Zerich, in addition to having BOTH cylon cards.  Dave played as the Cylon Leader and was fortunate enough to have allegiances to the humans and shared their victory.  Michael F and K, Chris and Alex were the humans.

6) Meanwhile, Karen Jim and Dan played a series of games during the Battlestar game.  First up was Guillotine.  In a series of three games Karen won 2 and Jim won 1.

7) Karen continued her winning streak at Ticket to Ride.  She won with 130 points to Dan’s 89 and Jim’s 80.

8) Finally, Bang was played but was very short.  Michael F, Dave and Karen were the Outlaws and quickly surrounded and then finished off Tyler as the Sheriff.  Deputy Chris and Renegade Brandon were unable to do anything being to far away.

BEWC Meeting Recap 6/15/13

Attendees: Michael Feinberg, Greg Chandra, Ryan Frans, Chris Cregan and Dave Olson

1) Android was the first game.  Ryan was the only experienced player and ended up winning due to a good start.  The conspiracy was quickly filled in, to the detriment of most players starting story mission.  Through out the game there was a battle between the spacers and those earth bound for clues, each side trying to keep clues on their side of the atmosphere.

2+3)Guillotine was next.  A simple card game in which a queue of French aristocrats line up to have their heads chopped off.  Most of the game was manipulating the line to get the more valuable nobles up when it was your turn with the axe.  Michael won both games handilly by picking on the guards whose point value varies based on the total number of guards.

4) Finally a game of Robo Rally was played.  Michael managed to complete his hat trick with this game by getting all the objectives.  Greg was determined to be in 2nd place as the last robo-man standing due to his opponents all self-destructing.

BEWC Meeting Recap 11/5/11

Attendees: Dan Carey, Tom Dunford, Michael Feinberg, Ryan Frans, Joe Kauffman, Michael Kelly, Dave Landon, Karen Landon, Jesse Lute, Jason Molstad, Lane Taylor, Alex Wright, Elaine Wright

Club Business: None

Games Played:

1) Dan, Michael, Dave, and Jason started off with a game of Pandemic, but were fairly quickly overtaken by outbreaks and lost when we ran out of black disease cubes

2) Tom, Dave, and Ryan then spent most of the rest of the day playing Space Empires 4X. Ryan spent his efforts beating Tom back most of the way to oblivion, allowing Dave to sweep in for the victory.

3) Dan, Michael F, Jason, and Lane played Merchants & Marauders. It was the first time playing for everyone, but Michael had gone through the rules and we picked it up pretty quickly. Dan got off to an early lead striking it rich as a merchant, while Michael has some early success as a pirate picking off NPC merchant ships. Michael thought he had achieved victory when in two turns he picked up 4 (of the 10 necessary) glory points through completing a mission, selling 3 good in demand, proving a rumor true, and sinking a French naval frigate, and he needed only to get back to his home port and stash his gold to win. Just after he made it to port, but before his next turn when he could stash his booty, Dan cashed in his own earnings and won the game.

4,5) Joe and Michael K teemed up to play Attika, which Joe won, then played Axis & Allies: D-Day, where Joe upturned history, successfully defending as the Germans.

6,7) Karen, Alex, and Elaine played a round of 7 Wonders and then were joined by Jesse for a second round with the leaders expansion. Alex won both games, with impressive scores of 67 and 72.

8) Michael F, Karen, Jesse, and Alex played Ra, where Alex just edged out Karen, 47 to 46.

9) Michael F, Joe, Jason, and Alex Galaxy Trucker. Joe always seemed to take the longest to assemble his ships, which is usually a significant handicap, but this time perfection paid off and let him haul home big cargo loads in the second and third rounds and win the game.

10, 11) Michael K, Jesse, and Elaine played two games of Dominion Seaside with Elaine winning both.

12) Joe, Karen, and Jason played Metro with Karen wining.

13) Dave, Karen, and Elaine played Guillotine, where Dave was victorious.

14, 15) Joe, Michael K, Jesse, and Jason played two games of Ca$h ‘n Gun$ (the second with the advanced rules) where Jason won the first and Joe the second.

16) Michael F and Alex finished up with a game of Twilight Struggle. It was Michael’s first game and he was completely unable to overcome the experience disadvantage, with Alex’s US achieving complete domination over the Soviets by the 5th turn.
