Michael, Robert, Alex, and Ben played the Desperadoes mission of Firefly with the Kalidasa and Pirates and Bounty Hunters expansions. Michael and Robert both suffered heavy setbacks at the hands of the reavers and it seemed like Ben had won the game when he was first over $15,000 and announced last call, but Alex swept in and sold all of the cargo and contraband he had been collecting through salvage ops and won the game with $18,800 to Ben’s $18,000.

Matt and Lionel contested their fleets in Star Wars Armada with Matt’s rebels emerging victorious.

Jim, Gary, and Jeramee ran two races of Formula D with Jim winning the first and Jeramee the second.

Lionel, Jim, and Gary played several rounds of Tsuro with Jim winning three times, Lionel and Gary one each, and one tie between Jim and Gary.

Michael, Alex, and Robert finished up with 7 Wonders, where it looked like Michael was in the lead, but Alex topped him 64 to 58 from his 36 points of science.

BEWC Meeting Recap 10/19/13

Attendees: Alex Jordan, Michael Feinberg, Jim Halloran, and Chris Cregan

1)Michael Alex and Jim started off with a game of Tsuro.  Alex fell off early though both Jim and Michael managed to survive to the last piece.  Both players found their pieces staring accros the last blank space and it was determined both Jim and Michael would share victory.

2)Next up Eclipse was brought out with the expansion Rise of the Ancients.  Michael fell to a couple of early losses to some ancients and was not able to come back till considerably later in the game.  Jim and Alex both sent huge armadas to the galactic center on the same turn.  Jim’s fleet got a good volley of missiles off initially but Alex’s thick armor proved better in the long drawn out battle.  Alex then easily handled the new GCD.  Chris spent the majority of the game exploring and fighting the ancients.  In the end Chris beat out Alex 40-38 with both players taking control of several points from both of the weaker civilizations.  Michael fared better than Jim, 23 to 15, due to more tech and a larger empire.  Jim had more expensive techs but they were spread out, the majority of his points coming from the few remaining ancients.

*It should be noted that two rather large mistakes were made during this game.  The rules for combat were mistaken, victims were choosing causality’s instead of offender.  Secondly Alex, being new to the game, was double counting his income for the first half of the game.

3) Cosmic Encounter finished off the day with a shared victory between Chris and Michael over Alex and Jim.

BEWC Meeting Recap 7/6/13

Attendees: Michael Feinberg, Ryan Frans, Jim Halloran, Brandan James, Amanda, Dave Landon, Karen Landon, and Dave Olson

Games Played:

1) Brandan and Dave L spent most of the day playing The Guns of Gettysburg, where Dave repeated history with a union victory.

2, 3) Michael, Ryan, Karen, and Dave O started with two games of Tsuro, which both ended with Dave winning and Michael in second.

4,5) Michael, Ryan, Karen, and Dave O moved on to Ryan’s new copy of Quarantine Z. In the first game, Dave was the zombie player and completely annihilated the human players. In the second, Michael was the zombie and the humans were able to hunker and down and burn through most of the zombie deck, looking like they would have an easy victory. Michael was able to find some reasonable zombies though and while attempting to escape from a combat, Ryan and Karen managed to blow themselves up with C4. That left just Dave and MIchael was able to kill him with some of his last cards, just squeaking out another zombie victory.

6) Michael, Ryan, Jim, Karen, and Dave O then played Alien Frontiers with the Factions expansion, where Ryan handily won.

7,8) Michael, Ryan, Jim, Karen, and Dave O switched to Cosmic Encounter. The first game was dominated by Karen’s use of the power of the loser, leading to her victory, while Ryan and Dave tied the second game.

9) Michael, Ryan, Brandan, Jim, Karen, Dave L and Dave O came together for a big game of Robo Rally. Ryan was ahead early and while a few other people got the third flag and almost caught him, Ryan held on for victory at the fourth flag.

10,11) Everyone then moved over to Bang!. In the first game, Dave O was the sheriff and one of his deputies, Ryan, was the first to fall, followed quickly by the three outlaws, leaving just Dave O, Michael, and Brandan. Michael managed to convince Dave that Brandan, was the renegade, but it didn’t matter as Brandan killed Michael, the actual renegade, for a law victory. In the second game, Ryan was the sheriff, and the outlaws thought things were looking good when Karen, sitting next to him, acquired a volcanic and a whole pile of bangs, but it turns out she was a deputy and actually killed Dave L, the renegade. With Ryan flanked by his other deputy, Dave O, the three outlaws soon fell for another law win.

12) Michael, Ryan, Brandan, Amanda, Karen, and Dave L finished off a long day of gaming with Scotland Yard. Ryan was Mr. X and on his first reveal successfully doubled back on the ferry and almost broke free, the investigators were able to keep decent track of him though and managed to corner him on turn 20.

BEWC Meeting Recap 5/5/12

Attendees: Greg Chandra, Chris Cregan, Michael Feinberg, Jim Halloran, and Michael Kelly

Club Business: None.

Games Played:
1) Michael F, Jim, and Michael K started with 7 Wonders with the Leaders expansion. Michael F’s first leader was Tomyris, which deflects the -1 points from military losses to his opponents, which allowed him to ignore the military and concentrate on science. Combined with a few high value blue cards this led him to a comfortable victory with 66 points.

2) Chris, Michael F, Jim, and Michael K played Jim’s classic copy of Cosmic Encounter. Michael F got out to an early lead in colonies, using his torture ability to broker some good deals, but Chris soon caught up and an allied victory for their fifth colonies gave them a shared victory.

3) Greg, Chris, Michael F, Jim, and Michael K played Puerto Rico. Chris had the most experience with the game and seemed to be leading, but Michael F was racking up a lot of points near the end shipping sugar and corn, while Michael K had both small and large markets so was making great profits at the trading house and plowing them back into guilds. The VP from his buildings allowed Michael K to edge out Michael F, 42 to 40.

4) After lunch, Greg, Chris, Michael F, and Michael K played Innovation. Chris quickly acquired a strong tableau, a special achievement, and a lot of score, but it was his first time playing and a misunderstanding of the rules causes him to miss picking up some regular achievements that were then taken by Michael K and Michael F. This kept Chris from having an early win and settled the game down to a fairly even match. Both Greg and Michael F racked up high scores and looked to be able to snag some of the last achievements, but Michael K dogma’d fission and everyone was nuked back to the stone age with only three cards below age 8 left in the game. Michael F drew and melded the age 1 card ‘Oars’ which gave him a scoring opportunity and when the game ended three rounds later with all of the age 10 cards drawn, the score from oars gave him the victory.

5) Greg, Chris, Michael F, and Michael K finished up with a quick game of Munchkin. Some lucky monster encounters and treasurer draws had Michael F quickly gain levels and while he was beat back down a little, some helpful allies and generosity with the treasurer quickly got him to level nine. To gain the 10th (winning) level in Munchkin, you need to win a combat, with one exception – the divine intervention card causes all clerics to gain a level and that level can be the winning one. Michael was a cleric and on his next turn, kicking down the door revealed the divine intervention card. In addition to winning, the text on the card gave him permission to mock the other players mercilessly.
