BEWC Meeting Recap 11/2/2013

Attendees:Dave Landon, Karen Landon, Alex Wright, Jim Halloran, Chris Cregan,  Brandan James, Dave Olson and Tyler Piersol.

1) In honor of it being Halloween weekend the first game out was Betrayal at House on the Hill.  Dave Landon, Dave Olson, Brandon Chris and Alex’s exploration of the house proceeded per normal, except no main stairs to the basement was found.  Instead a few luckless adventureres uncovered chutes, slides or outright fell through the floor to discover the lower chambers.  It was while most were down there that that Dave Olson was revealed to be the traitor, and roused a Frankenstein monster to try and hug his former allies to death.  The beast took off with a start and quickly he cornered Alex in the graveyard.  Chris and Dave left the basement through a discovered secret passage and frantically explored the upper floors in search of items to fight the monster.  Brandon wasn’t so fortunate in escaping the basement.  Dave O. and the monster cut him off from the secret route and slowely gained on Brandons slower character.  Though as fortune would have it Brandon found the stair well up at the last tile and quickly joined his two other companions in the upper floor.  The monster soon followed but was slowed.  For two consecutive turns Dave found his monster under attack as torch after torch was hurled at the monster, all landing with perfect accuracy.  The monster quickly took light and Dave was lectured about the errors of trying to kill his friends.  Everyone then left the mansion, well except for Alex who was still dead.

2.Next up Brandon doned the Mr. X cap as Chris, Both Daves Alex and Tyler attempted to catch him in Scotland Yard.  Starting off in North Western London, Mr X tried to cross the Themes via the bridge but was cut off by Dave Landon.  As the officers neared on his location though, Mr. X quickly cut back to the subway to the middle of the board and began moving east.  By then the officers had him surrounded.   After a series of secret moves the officers were growing concerned that he might have found an opening, Chris and Dave O.rushed East and South trying to mitigate any distance if he was heading back to the Themes.  The rest guarded against the subway, Dave L in the south Tyler in the West and Alex in the North.  It turned out Brandon had double backed since his subway stint and moved west, but ended up getting stuck by Alex and Tylers movements.  When his position become known Tyler was able to capture him in a turn.

3) Two game of Avalon were played with evil winning both rounds.  Tyler, Chris, Karen, Alex and Brandon were defeated in the first game by both Daves and Jim.  The second game Chris Jim and Alex managed to confuse Tyler, Karen, Brandon and both Daves.

4) Dave Olson was eager to try and play his new Kemet game.  Chris had already played the game and taught it to both Tyler and Dave.  Using a heavy blood strategy Chris won with 11 points though.  Tyler finished with six and Dave with four.

5) Karen, Dave O. and Chris played a round of Ticket to Ride: Switzerland.  Chris won with 97, followed by Dave with 88 and Karen close behind with 84.

6) Jim and Alex took on Tyler and Dave L in Warparty.  In a long, back and forth game Jim and Alex managed to triumph over the forces of evil.

BEWC Meeting Recap 3/17/12

Attendees: Chris Cregan, Michael Feinberg, Jim Halloran, Joe Kauffman, Michael Kelly, Dave Olson, and Alex Wright,

Club Business: None.

Games Played:
1,2) Chris and Michael F started with two rounds of BattleLore. In the first, First Chevaucheé, Michael as Charles of Blois was unable to develop any momentum and Chris as John of Montfort completely walked over him, 5 to 0. In their second game, they added in wizards, playing the Wizard and Lore scenario – Aquitaine 1369. It was a little less unbalanced, but Chris’s sir Robert Knolles was still victorious over Michael’s Sire Bertrand du Guesclin 6 to 3.

3) Jim, Joe, and Michael K played Tanto Cuore, where Joe was victorious and crowned King of Maids

4) Michael F and Dave sat down for their first play of Star Trek: Fleet Captains. Michael controlled the Federation fleet and turning around his earlier bad luck with BattleLore, drew some readily achievable missions, which combined with some lucky die rolls, brought them game to a fairly early end with 10 VP to Dave’s Klingon’s 4 VP.

5) Chris, Jim, Joe, Michael K, and Alex played Betrayal at House on the Hill. Surprisingly quickly, Chris was revealed as the Haunt, but the banshee he summoned was only able to kill two of the other four players before he was defeated, so the investigators won.

6) Chris, Jim, Michael K, and Alex played 7 Wonders, where Chris won with a commanding 61 points, specializing in science, and Mike K came in second having earned the maximum possible 18 points from his military.

7) Chris, Michael F, Jim, Dave and Alex played a surprisingly slow game of Battlestar Galactica with the Exodus expansion. Chris was a cylon from the start and tipped his hand a little earlier due to a misunderstanding of the rules (it was his first time playing) so he got sent to the brig, but did a valiant job of protesting his innocence and until after the first half. Unfortunately with the revised loyalty deck of Exodus, one card doesn’t get dealt out, and against the odds, this time it was the other cylon card, so Chris was on his own. The rec center closed before we finished the game, but it was still up in the air which way the game would go – the humans had just made their 8th distance of jump, so just needed to get through the jump track one more time, but several of the resource dials were down to two or three, galactica was damaged, and a large cylon fleet had just jumped in.

BEWC Meeting Recap 12/3/11

Attendees: Dan Carey, Tom Dunford, Michael Feinberg, Joe Kauffman, Michael Kelly, Dave Landon, Karen Landon, Alex Wright, Elaine Wright, Shawn Yoon

Club Business: None

Games Played

1) Michael F, Dave, and Karen started with a game of Attika, which Dave, as usual, won.

2) Dan and Tom spent most of the day playing The Destruction of Army Group Center, which held true to historical form and Dan’s Soviets were victorious over Tom’s Germans.

3) Michael F, Michael K, Dave, and Shawn played an extremely close game of Pillars of the Earth, which ended with Michael F at 41 VP, Michael K at 42 VP, and Shawn and Dave tied with 43 VP. Shawn had the tiebreaker of more money remaining, giving him the win. A more thorough reading of the rules after the game revealed that Michael F shouldn’t have lost a VP for being only 1 gold short on his taxes (the king strangely rounds in your favor), making the game even closer.

4) Michael F, Joe, Alex, and Elaine played Agricola, with Alex winning, Michael right behind him, and Joe and Elaine tying for third.

5) Michael K, Dave, Karen, and Shawn played Thurn and Taxis, which was another close game, with Dave beating out Michael by 1 point.

6) Michael K and Shawn played Ascension, with Shawn once again winning by a single point.

7) Dan, Michael F, Dave, and Alex played Mare Nostrum. Dave’s Roman legions made an early foray into Michael’s Egypt before turning on Dan’s Carthage. Alex’s Greek triremes were able to interdict the Romans at sea, but no one was able to stop their rise to power and Dave’s victory.

8) Joe, Michael K, Karen, Elaine, and Shawn played Betrayal at House on the Hill. Michael K was revealed as the traitor in the Let Them In haunt and despite dying in the process, he and the madman were able to let in all of the specters and overwhelm the explorers for a traitor victory.
