BEBGC Meeting Recap 03/05/16

Games Played

Michael, Scott, Ed, Byron, and Phillip tried out the club’s new copy of Dead of Winter. They played the introductory “We Need Samples” mission, but inadvertently selected the hard core difficulty. The group lost from moral, but with more statistically likely rolls on collecting samples after killing zombies, probably could have won.

A second game of Dead of Winter was played, with Chris replacing Scott, this time the “Raiding Party” scenario, also on hard core. It started off with a player dead from a bite on the first move and went downhill from there, with the group soon lost.

Brandan, Dave, and Alex played Five Tribes, with Dave winning.

The three of the moved on to XCOM: The Board Game and defeated the aliens.

Brandan and Dave played 7 Wonders: Duel, where Dave won again after Brandan was stuck in a swamp.

Chris, Brandan, Kerri, and Angela played Castles of Mad King Ludwig with the Secrets expansion with Angela building the most fantastical castle.

Chris, Brandan, Dave, Karen, Kerri, and Angela faced off in Ca$h ‘n Gun$ where Kerri was the most successful gangster.

They finished up with Mister X with the investigators finding Kerri’s Mister X.

BEBGC Meeting Recap 02/20/16

Games Played

Ed (Dracula), Ben (Lord Godalming), Phillip (Dr. John Seward), Jeramee (Van Helsing), and Dave (Mina Harker) played Fury of Dracula. The hunters had Dracula on the run from eastern Europe to Spain and back to eastern Europe. In the end Van Helsing had him cornered and under attack, but he Dracula was able to survive and escape, winning the game!

Kirill, Michael, Chris, Byron, Nicholas and Theresa played King of New York. After a hard fought game, Chris was crowned King!

Matt played Hostage Negotiator, but he was unable to successfully complete the scenario.

Neil, Matt, Theresa and Nicholas played Ascending Empires. Matt won with the largest empire.

Michael, Chris, Byron and Kirill played Kings of Air and Steam. King of Air and Steam Chris won with 146, Michael was just behind at 137, then Kirill at 128 and Byron at 118.

Gary, Kirill, Michael, Chris and Byron played Bohnanza. Chris rounded out his triple crown performance and was crowned king of the bean farmers.

Byron, Gary, Theresa and Nicholas played Ca$h ‘n Guns (second edition). Byron was the winner.

Jeramee, Dave, Phillip and Ed played Defenders of the Realm. The realm was successfully defended!

Michael, Ben, Chris and Kirill played Concordia. Ben handily won with 149, Chris and Michael were tied with 127 and Kirill had 99.

Club Business:

The club voted to purchase Dead of Winter and Xia: Legends of a Drift System, and Ed McGran offered to donate a copy of Forbidden Stars in exchange for 2 years of club dues.

BEBGC Meeting Recap 02/06/16

Games Played

Jim, Scott, David, Byron and Phillip started with Small World where Jim was victorious.

They then moved on to Bang! where Scott and Phillips shared a law victory.

Michael, Ben, and Alex W taught Alex J Caverna and Alex W finally broke Michael’s winning streak with an animal and ore storage heavy strategy, finishing with a commanding 106 points over Michael’s 89.

Jim, Scott, Phillip, and Marney played four games of Tsuro in various combinations, with Scott winning the first three and Jim coming back to win a final one on challenge against him.

Karen, Theresa, Elaine, and Nicholaus played a close game of Guillotine with Elaine and Theresa tying with 25 points and Karen one behind at 24.

Sam, Jeramee, Theresa, Elaine, and Nicholaus played Puerto Rico which was also extremely close – Jeramee, Elaine, and Theresa all tied with 36 points plus Sam with 35. Jeramee was victorious in the tie breaker of most goods and doubloons.

Jim and Ben faced off in Twilight Struggle, where Ben rewrote history with a Russian cold war victory.

Scott, Jeramee, Theresa, and Phillip played Rampage with yet another close game when Jeramee edged Scott out 51 to 50.

Sam, Michael, Alex J, Karen, and Byron played 7 Wonders with the Leaders expansion. Michael’s heavy investment in science gave him the win with 79 points, with Alex in second with 71.

The group came back together for a round of the Resistance where David, Theresa, and Nick were victorious as the spies over the loyal Michael, Karen, Jeramee, Byron, and Phillip.

Michael, David, Karen, and Jeramee finished up with the Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Michael won with 98 points, with Jeramee in second with 93, while Karen who had been trailing most of the game made an impressive sweep of the end game favors and almost caught up with 91.

Games Played

Michael, Robert, Jim, Alex, and Ben started with Castle Panic, where they succesfully defended the castle with only two towers destroyed.

Matt, Lionel, Jim, and Jeramee played Cosmic Encounter. Jeramee’s Traders tagged along with Lionel’s Misers for the shared victory.

Michael, Robert, Alex, and Ben played the Desperadoes mission of Firefly with the Kalidasa and Pirates and Bounty Hunters expansions. Michael and Robert both suffered heavy setbacks at the hands of the reavers and it seemed like Ben had won the game when he was first over $15,000 and announced last call, but Alex swept in and sold all of the cargo and contraband he had been collecting through salvage ops and won the game with $18,800 to Ben’s $18,000.

Matt and Lionel contested their fleets in Star Wars Armada with Matt’s rebels emerging victorious.

Jim, Gary, and Jeramee ran two races of Formula D with Jim winning the first and Jeramee the second.

Lionel, Jim, and Gary played several rounds of Tsuro with Jim winning three times, Lionel and Gary one each, and one tie between Jim and Gary.

Michael, Alex, and Robert finished up with 7 Wonders, where it looked like Michael was in the lead, but Alex topped him 64 to 58 from his 36 points of science.

BEBGC Meeting Recap 12/19/15

Games Played:

Michael, Jim and Byron played Castle Panic. It was a hard fought battle, but they were able to defend the castle from the evildoers with two towers left standing.

Lionel, Ben, Michael and Byron played Fire and Axe.

Dave and Jim played Twilight Struggle.  US (Jim) won the Cold War.

Lionel, Ben, Michael, Byron and Matt played Pirate’s Cove.

Jim and Dave played Risk: Star Wars Edition.

Michael, Ben and Dave played Caverna. Michael ended up the most successful cave farmer with 85 points, followed by Ben with 73 points and Dave with 65.

BEBGC Meeting Recap 11/21/15

Games Played

Matt and Jim played Risk: Star Wars Edition.  Matt’s rebel forces won the game by destroying the Death Star.

Michael, Dave and Ben played Suburbia.  Ben dominated, with Dave and Michael as distant second and third.

Matt and Jim played Risk: Star Wars Edition.  This time Matt’s rebels were down to their last fighter in a desperate attempt to destroy the Death Star, but it was not to be.  Jim’s Imperial forces crushed the puny rebellion.

Matt and Jim played Tiny Epic Galaxies.

Matt, Michael, Jim, Dave and Ben played Terra Mystica. Michael dominated the game, with Ben a distant second followed by Dave, Jim and Matt.

Michael (Containment Specialist), Jim (Dispatcher) and Dave (Medic) played Pandemic: The Cure. The good guys were no match for the diseases, losing to an 8th outbreak having only found a cure for one of the diseases.

Michael (Contingency Planner), Jim (Medic) and Dave (Generalist) played Pandemic: The Cure. This game was much closer to a win, with 3 of the 4 diseases cured, and a chance to cure the fourth on the final turn, but it was not to be and the 8th outbreak ended the game.

Club Business

The club voted to purchase a copy of Mission Red Planet and Castle Panic.

Games Played

Some people may have played Kingdoms.

Chris, Brandan,  Dave and Karen played Betrayal at House on the Hill.  Karen turned on the group and managed to kill everyone except Brandan before she was banished.

Chris, Brandan,  Dave and Karen played Castles of Mad King Ludwig.  Dave was the most mad-king-like and won.

Michael, Chris, Brandan and Dave played Terra Mystica and Dave stumbled his way into a solid win.

Ben, Jim, Alex and Michael played Dominion.

Next Brandan, Chris, Tim and Dave played XCOM: The Board Game and soundly trounced the aliens.

Michael, Ben, Chris and Jim played Firefly: The Game – the Harken’s Folly scenario – and Mike won.

BEBGC Meeting Recap 10/17/15

Games Played

Michael, Alex, Jim, Dave and Ben played Defenders of the Realm.  Chalk up another loss for the defenders.

Lionel and Dave played Tide of Iron.  Dave’s US forces made a successful assault on the not-that-heavily defended target zone in the intro scenario.  Lionel’s German defenders were outnumbered by the assaulting US squads and fell quickly.  This scenario may not have been overly balanced.

Michael, Alex, Jim and Ben played Civilization.  It was a long game, and Michael’s Chinese empire was ultimately victorious.

Lionel, Chris and Dave played Pirates of the Spanish Main.  Chris sunk Lionel’s and Dave’s ships, earning the title of most fearsome pirate of the high seas!

Lionel, Chris and Dave played Lords of Waterdeep with the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion.  Chris came away with another win with 191 points, Dave had 146 and Lionel ended the game with 104.

Chris and Dave played Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends.  Chris picked up his third win of the day with a commanding win.

Meeting Recap 09/19/15

Games Played

Michael and Dave played Eminent Domain.  Michael went for a strong produce/trade strategy and Dave went heavily military.  Michael won 37 to 35.

Michael and Dave played Eminent Domain.  This time they switched roles, Dave went for a strong produce/trade strategy and Michael went heavily military.  Michael won 45 to 36.

Ryan and Jim played Churchill.  Ryan won as Churchill with 51 points, Jim came in second as Stalin with 50, and the bot player FDR/Truman brought up the rear with 43 points.

Michael and Dave played BattleLore.  They played the first scenario, Agincourt.  Michael changed the course of history and won as the French, four flags to one, in a very quick romp.

Michael and Dave played BattleLore.  Again they played the first scenario, Agincourt, but they switched sides.  This time Michael was able to restore the historical balance, winning four flags to two.

Michael, Jim and Dave played Defenders of the Realm.  This was a rough game from turn one, and the heroes were only able to defeat one general before the game ended.

Michael, Jim and Dave played Defenders of the Realm.  This time the heroes did much better, and were able to take out three of the generals, but the countryside was overrun with minions and the land was too corrupted.  It was close to a win, but once again the heroes fell short.
